Communications Officer

Job Purpose | Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a suitably qualified and competent individual to provide internal and external communications support to the department as part of the Communications team. |
Minimum Requirements | An appropriate (3-year National Diploma/B Degree or higher qualification); A minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a Communications or Journalism environment. |
Recommendation | A valid Code B (or higher) driving license. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply; Experience in social media content production. |
Key Performance Areas | Sourcing and writing news stories; Photography – taking high quality photos to accompany news stories and to be used on external platforms; Uploading content to the departmental website; Procurement tasks. |
Competencies | Knowledge of writing, editing and photography
Skills in the following: Computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.); Communication skills (written and verbal); Ability to work independently and as part of a team. |
Remuneration | R 359 517 per annum (Salary level 8)
Note on remuneration: Service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc.) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements. |
Notes | Shortlisted candidates will be required to submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. These candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and may also be required to undergo competency assessments/proficiency tests. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
